All About Small Talk, by Erin A. Alexander, LPC

Have you ever thought about what you would talk about on your first date? Or how you have relaxing small talk with your partner? Small talk is actually very healthy in both situations. On a date, it sort of lightens the mood. It helps you get to know something beyond the superficial. Small talk on a date might save you from setting up another date with someone who is not your type.

If you’re already in a relationship, small talk gives couples other things to talk about besides difficulties in the relationship, the kids, finances, and other serious topics. Small talk allows you to learn things about each other that you may have never learned otherwise.

Initiating one little “off-the-wall” topic can lead to quite a lively conversation!

Try it the next time you go on a date or have a romantic night out with your partner.
